I'm a marketer. Being a marketer, I pay attention to what all types of businesses around me are doing to grab attention, acquire customers, interact with and keep those customers happy and coming back. There are businesses I see who clearly do this well, and I'm sure you've got examples of the good, the bad, and the ugly in your neighborhood. In this blog, I hope to point out the good, correct the bad, and mock the ugly. I've helped several people, family and friends, with their web sites, google rankings and online presence, as well as myriad off-line channels. Basically getting them noticed and making it easy for people to find them online.
I'm an email marketer by trade and will likely spend much of this blog extolling the benefits of email marketing for companies big and small. It is truly such an easy thing to do, that costs so little and has such a big impact. I've been asked several times if I'm worried about email becoming obsolete with the coming about of social networking, and I'm always a little surprised by this question. Anyone who has signed up for facebook or twitter knows that in order to get an account, you have to first have an email address. When these companies want to tell you something important, they don't update their status or post on your wall; they send you an email. And I'm still waiting for the day when my boss asks for the 3rd quarter report via facebook chat. Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely naive about the way these services are changing the way people interact with each other and with brands and businesses, but to suggest that email will disappear because of these pubescent companies seems a bit quick for me.
I'm excited about the opportunity to share some tips that any small business can implement without the advantage of a marketing department to make your small business feel big!
